What is the Precision Study?
-
This is an observational study designed to examine the long-term safety of a drug called Rituxan which is used to treat patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study is being conducted by Dr. Alfredo Rivadeneira.
What did we learn?
-
Since this study will follow patients who are taking Rituxan over a period of years, it will provide important information about the long-term safety of this drug for treatment of RA patients.
Who is Participating?
-
Approximately 1000 people with RA who are taking Rituxan for the first time will be enrolled in the study. About 10 patients will be enrolled at UNC.
What is Involved?
During a routine clinic visit, the information you provide to your doctor about your RA will be collected for the purposes of this study about every six months. No treatments, procedures, or medical tests beyond what your doctor orders as “standard of care” are required for this study. You will be asked to complete a short questionnaire once a year. You will receive a monetary reimbursement for your participation in the study.
How will I Benefit?
-
You will not receive any direct personal benefit from participating in this study. The knowledge gained from the study could provide valuable information about RA and its treatment in the future.
