October 15, 2008 Teresa Tarrant, M.D. has received the School of Medicine's James W. Woods Junior Faculty Award. This prestigious honor carries a $3,000 award to be used to enhance teaching or patient care activities or to explore biological problems. A team of researchers from TARC were recognized by the ACR/ARHP for their work on "The Role of Pain Intensity and Pain Limitation as Mediators in the Relationship between Arthritis Status and 7 Psychosocial Health Outcomes". The award includes attending the ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting. This award supports travel to the 2008 ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting up to $1500 and gives recipients an additional award of $750. ACR REF/Abbott Medical and Graduate Student Achievement Award
October 1, 2008 Lynn Howie, with Dr Robert Roubey as preceptor, was awarded the American College of Rheumatology Research and Education Foundation ACR/REF Abbott Health Professional Graduate Student Achievement Award. The title of the project is "Protein C Pathway Abnormalities are Risk Factors for Thrombosis and Pregnancy Loss in Patients with Antiphospholipid Antibodies." This award recognizes medical and graduate students for significant work in the field of rheumatology, and is based on scores for abstracts submitted to the ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting. June 15, 2008 Delesha Carpenter, with Dr Robert DeVellis as preceptor, was awarded the American College of Rheumatology Research and Education Foundation ACR/REF Abbott Health Professional Graduate Student Research Preceptorship. The title of the project is "Developing a scale to measure conflicting medicine information for vasculitis patients".
