  • Where does my gift go?

  • Gifts to Thurston Arthritis Research Center provide vital resources to help our faculty and staff treat arthritis patients, conduct cutting-edge research, and train future physicians and scientists. Thurston is a nationally recognized leader in arthritis, allergy and autoimmune diseases research, treatment, and outreach. Your contributions remain in North Carolina to benefit your friends and neighbors.

  • What recognition will I receive?

  • All donors will receive a prompt acknowledgement. Annual gifts of $1,000 or more are recognized on our Friends of Thurston Arthritis Research Center donor wall in the lobby of the center as well as the Annual Report of the Medical Foundation of North Carolina, Inc.

    Donors who give $1,000 or more annually are considered members of the Thurston Club. Annual contributions over $2,000 additionally qualify you for membership in the Co-Founders club of the Medical Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. and the University's 1793 Society.

  • Is my gift tax-deductible?

  • Yes. Thurston Arthritis Research Center is part of The Medical Foundation of North Carolina, Inc., which raises funds to benefit the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and UNC Health Care. All gifts are tax-deductible subject to the limits allowed by the Internal Revenue Service. If you make a gift associated with an event, auction, product or service, Thurston Arthritis Research Center's Development office will provide you with the necessary documentation for tax purposes.

  • I'd like to make a gift in honor or memory of someone special

  • You may celebrate, honor or remember that special someone with a gift to Thurston. Is there someone special in your life who has arthritis? What better way to celebrate that person than a gift in their name to help find cures, preventions and effective treatments.

    With your gift of $25 or more, we’ll send a personalized holiday or tribute card to the person of your choice. Contact Randy Mounce at 919-966-9301 or rmounce@med.unc.edu for more information.

  • How do I encourage gifts?

  • If you have lost a loved one and wish to request contributions to Thurston Arthritis Research Center, you may include specific wording in the obituary notice, such as "The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Thurston Arthritis Research Center, CB #7280 UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7280." If you would like to have brochures or gift envelopes available or have further questions, please feel free to contact Randy Mounce at 919-966-9301 or rmounce@med.unc.edu.
