APPLICATION PROCESS

The Rheumatology Fellowship Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine has two major objectives: to provide comprehensive training in rheumatologic practice, and to offer candidates who are planning a career in academic rheumatology an opportunity to develop themselves as Principal Investigators. Funding for fellowship stipends is provided primarily by an NIH Institutional Training grant, and is restricted to U.S. Citizens or permanent residents who are seriously interested in a career in academic medicine.

The sine qua non with respect to selection of trainees is a sincere interest and commitment to a career in research. Preference is given to MD candidates who wish to become academic rheumatologists and who exhibit objective evidence of aptitude and productivity in their previous research experiences. Additional criteria include letters of recommendation, quality of previous graduate or post-graduate training environment, and academic record. We are currently accepting applications for fellowships beginning in July 2008. We will be participating in the ERAS program and the Rheumatology Match.

Please see the ERAS link on the AAMC website which will tell you how to get started.
